Supporting the community
In 2017, Jacksonville attorney Mike Freed ran six marathons in six days, from Tallahassee to Jacksonville, courthouse to courthouse, to raise money for legal aid and to bring attention to the “justice gap;” indigent people with no access to legal services. The legal community and the public took notice and nearly $70,000 was raised to benefit Jacksonville Area Legal Aid (JALA). The event received not only local but state and national media attention. In 2018, the event expanded to included relay teams and raised more than $144,000.
